SQLite Takes a Firm Stance Against AI Agent Code Contributions

Summary & Key Takeaways

  • SQLite introduced an AGENTS.md file to clarify its policy on AI contributions.
  • The project explicitly states it does not accept agentic code, strengthening this stance recently.
  • Human developers will review AI-generated pull requests only as proofs-of-concept.
  • SQLite welcomes AI-generated bug reports, provided they include reproducible test cases.
  • A new dedicated SQLite Bug Forum was created due to a high volume of AI-generated issues.

Our Commentary

This is a big one. SQLite, a project that underpins so much of the web, explicitly saying "no agentic code" is a wake-up call. We've been talking about AI agents, but this is the first time I've seen a major project draw such a clear line in the sand. The fact they had to create a separate forum for AI-generated bug reports is both hilarious and terrifying. It makes me wonder how many other projects are silently dealing with this.
